FLAP's Work

Leadership and Professional Development

FLAP is fully dedicated to supporting its team and the low-wage community in acquiring skills that will enhance their personal growth and benefit FLAP as an organization, ultimately allowing better services with high-impact.

By investing in personal and professional growth, FLAP fosters leadership from within, strengthens its operational capacity, and drives high-impact, culturally grounded services for worker families.

The FLAP team is encouraged to partake in networking for FLAP, attend events, workshops, professional coaching, virtual and/or in-person meetings, site visits, fundraising events, conferences, panels, forums, individual and/or group training sessions, and specialized trainings such as the “Migrant Law Training”, and “Train the Trainer”, among others. These opportunities, free of cost for FLAP’s team, align with the organization’s commitment to ongoing learning and development.

Both the Bilingual Chief Executive Officer and the Development and Communications Department actively source and promote these opportunities to ensure the team stays at the forefront of Leadership and Professional Development.

FLAP empowers the team to become leaders and to see FLAP’s leadership as a “team” instead of "bosses", where every voice is valued, and each individual holds the potential to emerge as a leader within FLAP.

FLAP also cultivates a culture of shared leadership through an open-door policy that encourages transparent communication and mutual trust. Rather than relying on rigid, top-down hierarchy, FLAP views leadership as a collective, team-wide effort while maintaining clear lines of accountability. Every voice is valued, and every staff member is empowered to step into leadership.

As a whole, since FLAP was incorporated in 1999, their team had attended more than 20,000 conferences, convening, forums, leadership events, meetings, panels, and trainings, empowering themselves to empower the low-wage community FLAP is looking to serve in the food supply chain, greenhouse, landscaping, nursery and snow removal industries.
