FLAP provides low-wage workers with the tools, skills, and legal resources necessary to overcome systemic barriers, secure better-paying jobs, achieve long-term financial stability, connection to financial empowerment programs, career pathways, and small-business support for working families.
With a dedicated Bilingual Senior Economic Mobility and Outreach Advocate, the economic mobility and empowerment program specifically targets vulnerable workers in the food supply chain, landscaping, greenhouse, nursery, and snow removal industries with career preparation and job placement tools, workers’ rights education, legal relief for better employment, financial and entrepreneurial empowerment.
FLAP helps with:
-Building digital career profiles on platforms like LinkedIn.
-Prepare job application, writing effective resumes and cover letters, and properly present professional references.
-Use online employment tools and search engines such as Indeed, Handshake, Job boards and others.
-Practice interview techniques and build confidence through targeted preparation.
-Connect directly with active employment openings and career planning resources.
A critical element of economic empowerment is protecting existing wealth and health. The program educates workers on what to do if injured on the job, how to report and seek justice for wage theft, discrimination and human labor/sex trafficking.
To unlock higher-paying career pathways, the program addresses legal barriers that often prevent marginalized workers from advancing. FLAP connects low-wage workers with cannabis expungement attorneys to clean their criminal records to pass employment background checks and provides vital legal assistance to secure stable immigration status and dual nationality, opening doors to formal, higher-wage job sectors.
Beyond traditional employment, FLAP connects families to broader financial networks that help with financial literacy tools, budgeting, and savings resources and guidance for low-wage workers looking to start or grow their own independent businesses.
