Community Outreach and Education
Instead of waiting for vulnerable workers to seek help, FLAP operates on a mobile, proactive model to eliminate barriers like geography, language, and fear of authority meeting more than 1,500 workers a week, where they are in fields, churches and consulates.
Instead of waiting for vulnerable workers to seek help, FLAP operates on a mobile, proactive model to eliminate barriers like geography, language, and fear of authority, meeting more than 1,500 workers a week, where they are in fields, churches, and consulates.
The Community Outreach and Education Program is the foundational core of FLAP. It is designed to proactively protect low-wage, marginalized workers in the food supply chain, greenhouse, landscaping, nursery and snow removal industries, by taking critical legal and resource knowledge directly into the field.
FLAP partners with 6 consulates -Colombian, Ecuadorian, Guatemalan, Mexico, Peru and Salvadorian-, and builds relationships with other organizations, churches, and business to deliver Know your Rights presentations providing information and referrals to low-wage communities in urban and rural areas. This allows FLAP to reach out more than 1,500 low-wage individuals a week.
To date, FLAP has printed and distributed more than 6.11M of bilingual flyers, booklets, and resource guides containing helpline numbers, legal rights breakdowns, and emergency contacts.
Community outreach and education targets low-wage laborers working across hazardous, isolated, and/or heavily exploited industries, including cannery, farming, greenhouse, landscaping, meatpacking, poultry, restaurant, and snow plowing sectors. All community outreach and education information, resources, and legal referrals are provided entirely free of charge.
