Our Work

The Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project (FLAP) was created in 1999 in response to restrictions on federal funding which severely limited the assistance that federally-funded legal services programs could provide to many of our clients. FLAP is committed to advocating for our clients and providing them with employment-related legal assistance. FLAP carries out its mission through litigation, outreach, community legal education, community education and referrals. FLAP also partners with other organizations to fight human labor trafficking. Accomplishments

The fight against wage theft goes on! Thanks to your support, the Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project (FLAP) continues the tireless effort to improve the working conditions for thousands of migrant and seasonal workers in the agricultural and landscaping industries in Illinois.

After 18 seasons of operations, FLAP has educated, advised and referred thousands of people and has filed more than 190 lawsuits in federal and state courts and sent more than 62 demand letters
in the name of the workers, recovering almost 3.7 million dollars in back wages and illegal
deductions. All of the litigation relates to the failure of nurseries, farms, and landscaping operations to pay wages due, to pay overtime, and to refund
illegal deductions from wages.
