Employment & Volunteer Positions

There are a number of different areas at FLAP that always need volunteer help, if your expertise doesn’t fit into one of these areas, we would still like to hear from you.

Referrals

If you are an experienced  attorney who handles any type of cases, and would like to be on our referral list, please contact us!

Co-Counsel

If you are an experienced attorney who handles wage and hour cases, are familiar with the following laws, are in the plaintiffs side only, and would like to co-counsel a case with FLAP, please contact us!

  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • Agricultural Worker Protection Act (AWPA)
  • Illinois Minimum Wage Law (IMWL)
  • Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act (IWPCA)

We mainly litigate in federal court and focus our litigation primarily on recovering earned and owed wages for our clients. Many of our cases settle quickly (4-12 months), thereby allowing an attorney to have a significant impact on a vulnerable immigrant worker’s life (as well as that of his or her family) in a relatively short period of time.  Though our cases rarely reach trial, some of our cases require a larger time commitment and require more complex litigation experience. Please submit a cover letter via e-mail to Alexandra Sossa, FLAP Executive Director: asossa@flapillinois.org. Thank you for your interest in FLAP and helping The Farmworker and Landscaper communities! Apply Now

Pro Bono Volunteer Attorney

Please contact us if you are an attorney who has experience with employment, speak Spanish and would like to use your legal degree to fight wage theft with us! FLAP offers volunteer attorneys the opportunity to gain substantial litigation experience.  We mainly litigate in federal court and focus our litigation primarily on recovering earned and owed wages for our clients.  To do so, we file claims under the following laws:

  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • Agricultural Worker Protection Act (AWPA)
  • Illinois Minimum Wage Law (IMWL)
  • Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act (IWPCA)

Volunteer attorneys will have the opportunity to draft pleadings, discovery, demand letters, and settlement agreements and engage in direct client communications throughout the duration of their cases. Many of our cases settle quickly (4-12 months), thereby allowing a volunteer attorney to have a significant impact on a vulnerable immigrant worker’s life (as well as that of his or her family) in a relatively short period of time.  Though our cases rarely reach trial, some of our cases require a larger time commitment and require more complex litigation experience. Please submit a cover letter and resume via e-mail to Alexandra Sossa, FLAP Executive Director: asossa@flapillinois.org.
