Chicago Office Intern Testimony, 2011
“My summer internship with the Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project was an incredibly rewarding, but sobering, experience. It is hard to believe that, in the 21st century, employers are still treating their workers so unfairly.
The FLAP summer internship allowed me to help people in real need: migrant and seasonal workers that are denied the protections of federal and state law by their employers. I was given the opportunity to interview our clients and investigate their claims. In addition, I conducted legal research and wrote memoranda, motions, and pleadings on our clients’ behalf. I was also able to participate in a successful settlement conference that resulted in a substantial cash award for our clients.
Not only did FLAP give me the opportunity to gain significant experience in employment law, but they also helped me contribute to protecting the rights of migrant and seasonal workers”.
